Anysphere has grown because of “the value” the company’s Cursor AI tool offers software developers, Truell told Bloomberg earlier this year. Cursor can generate new code based on prompts, a practice known as vibe coding. It also acts as a spell check for code, automatically correcting errors.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the tool was his “favorite enterprise AI service” in an interview with CNBC in October. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said he was using Cursor to help vibe code a webpage in June.

Lovable, the Stockholm-based ‘vibe coding’ startup, is raising at a valuation of around $6 billion, according to four sources familiar with the financing. The sources cautioned that the situation is fluid and numbers could change.

Lovable declined to comment.

The round would more than triple the company’s worth from its $1.8 billion valuation in July, after a $200 million Series A led by Accel. Lovable is one of a new crop of startups enabling a boom in ‘vibe coding’ where programmers, or even amateurs, take suggestions from AI models to not only write lines of code but spin up entire apps or websites.

In June, Lovable became the fastest-growing software startup in history, reaching $100 million in subscription revenue (on an annualized basis) in just eight months since its launch last November, eclipsing other rocketships like Israeli cloud security startup Wiz and San Francisco–based HR platform Deel (which hit the same benchmark in 18 months and just under two years, respectively).

Lovable’s founder Anton Osika earlier this week said it had 8 million active users on its platform, up from 2.3 million users in July.

Investors have doubled, and now tripled down on bets in this space, with coding tool Cursor, which is aimed more at professional programmers, raising $2.3 billion on a $30 billion valuation. The surge in Cursor’s valuation, which has minted its four cofounders as billionaires, comes as its annualized revenue has ballooned to over $1 billion. As such, it is easy to see why analysts have raised their growth expectations for DigitalOcean.

Finally, this cloud stock trades at a very attractive 4.6 times sales as of this writing. That's a discount to the U.S. technology sector's average price-to-sales ratio of 9.2. Jon McNeill, co-founder and CEO of DVx Ventures, shared that startups that scale quickly to $5 million in revenue still face hurdles in obtaining subsequent funding rounds. “This game is evolving, with dynamics continuously shifting,” he commented. He further pointed out that Series A investors are applying rigorous evaluation criteria to seed-stage ventures that were once reserved for advanced entities.

“The top-performing companies often aren’t those with superior technology,” McNeill remarked, attributing their success to strong customer acquisition and retention strategies. Investors are increasingly focusing on the go-to-market (GTM) strategies of these startups.

Meanwhile, Steve Jang of Kindred Ventures disagreed with the notion that a stellar GTM trumps technology. “It’s not entirely accurate to say that average tech combined with excellent GTM will always prevail,” he said, asserting that both elements are essential for success. McNeill later clarified that while having a solid product remains critical, it is vital for founders to create robust sales and marketing strategies from the outset. “Investors are now more discerning about go-to-market strategies than they’ve ever been,” he emphasized.

The discourse around marketing versus technology took center stage again when Roy Lee, founder of the startup Cluely, remarked that even launching a minimally functional product with widespread social media attention might not yield the best outcomes.

In Lee's view, AI startups are now under immense pressure to deliver updates and novel features at an accelerated pace to stay ahead of competitors who might introduce similar technologies. “Look at how quickly OpenAI and Anthropic are releasing updates; you must keep up with the speed and quality of your production,” she urged.

Despite the high expectations for rapid growth and innovation, the panelists collectively acknowledged that the AI sector is still in its infancy. As Jang concluded, “There are currently no definitive winners, even among large language models. Many contenders are closely pursuing them,” indicating that startups still have opportunities to challenge established leaders in the market, whether they are long-standing firms or nimble newcomers.

If there’s one thing that VCs agree on when backing AI startups, it’s that AI requires a different investment approach than prior technological shifts.

“It’s a funky time,” said Aileen Lee, founder and managing partner of Cowboy Ventures, onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025. The longtime VC noted that the rules of investing have significantly shifted now that some AI companies are leaping from “zero to $100 million in revenue in a single year.”

However, Lee also noted that, based on her firm’s research, Series A investors aren’t just seeking rapid revenue growth. “It’s an algorithm with different variables and different coefficients.”

Some of the factors investors now measure, according to Lee, include whether the startup is generating data, the strength of its competitive moat, the founders’ past accomplishments, and the technical depth of the product. “Depending on what your company is, the output of the algorithmic formula is going to be different,” she said.

Jon McNeill, co-founder and CEO of startup creation firm DVx Ventures, stated that even startups that grow rapidly from inception to $5 million in revenue often struggle to secure follow-on funding. “I think this game has changed, and it is changing dynamically,” he said.

McNeill noted that Series A investors are now applying the same rigorous standards to seed-stage startups that they previously reserved for more mature companies.

“I think a lot of investors have figured out that the breakout companies, in most cases, don’t have the best tech,” McNeill said about why Series A VCs are looking so closely at startups’ ability to attract and retain customers. “They have the best go-to market.”

Steve Jang, founder and managing partner of Kindred Ventures, disagreed that a strong go-to-market (GTM), an industry term for sales and marketing, holds greater weight for investors. “I don’t think it’s 100% true to say mediocre technology, great GTM wins and raises money and gets customers. I think that it’s a necessary requirement to have both.”

While McNeill later clarified that having a solid product is important, he indicated that his initial comment was related to the founders’ need to develop an exceptionally strong sales and marketing strategy right out of the gate. “Investors are getting much more sophisticated on the go-to market than they have in the past,” he said.

(The debate over marketing versus tech was brought to the forefront later during the conference when Roy Lee, founder of the viral startup Cluely, said onstage that launching a product that barely worked, even with massive social media fame, may not always be the best idea.)

Aileen Lee added that AI startups are now under pressure to deliver product updates and new features at an unprecedented pace, preempting existing companies that might try to introduce similar products. “If you look at how much OpenAI and Anthropic are shipping, you’re going to have to figure out how to match how much you ship, how quickly and the quality of it,” she said.

Despite the expectations for breakneck growth and fast product development, panelists agreed that the AI industry is still in its very early stages. As Jang put it, “There are no clear, outright winners, even in LLMs. There are competitors nipping at their heels.”

This means startups still have a path to unseating perceived leaders, whether they are decades-old companies or fast-moving newcomers.

Recently, he secured $36.5 million in funding, spearheaded by Accel Partners, a venture capital firm recognized for its early investments in companies like Facebook, Dropbox, and Atlassian.

Code Metal's innovative technology empowers software developers to create code once and seamlessly translate it across various programming languages. This functionality accelerates the delivery of new features to a broader audience. Morales, who previously served as the technology chief at a gaming company, emphasized the considerable advantages Code Metal brings to developers working in sectors such as appliance software, consumer electronics, factory automation, automotive, and medical devices.

"However, that’s not where most organizations allocate their time or resources. Code Metal is dedicated to ensuring code is production-ready, which demands high confidence in its accuracy, compliance, and functionality."

To achieve this level of reliability, Morales explained that standard large language models lack the necessary rigor, prompting Code Metal to utilize formal methods—advanced computing techniques to verify correct code translation rigorously.

Situated in Boston, Code Metal has already landed contracts worth tens of millions with both commercial and public sector clients, including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, and Raytheon, alongside various automotive suppliers and consumer electronics firms.

Steve Loughlin from Accel, who led the funding round, noted that Code Metal is the fastest-growing company within Accel’s portfolio of early-stage businesses, with demand for its offerings rapidly increasing. "The market potential here is nearly limitless," Loughlin stated, adding that Code Metal helps clients accelerate development processes and modernize existing legacy codes.

The funding round also included participation from previous investors J2 Ventures and Shield Capital, along with Bosch Ventures and Raytheon's RTX Ventures.

Peter Morales started Code Metal two years ago, jumping into the market for artificial intelligence coding tools at a time when AI companies were rapidly changing the market for software development.

Now he's got $36.5 million in the bank, thanks to an investment led by venture firm Accel Partners, known for early bets on Facebook , Dropbox and Atlassian .

Code Metal's technology allows software engineers to write code once, then automatically translate it into any other programming language so they can ship new features faster and to a wider swath of users. Morales, who was previously technology chief at a gaming company, said Code Metal's offering is particularly appealing to developers working on software to run appliances, consumer electronics, factory robotics, autos and medical devices.

Those are industries with products that contain a wide array of chips, which come with different software development kits, operating systems and code libraries. Morales gave the example of an automaker creating a feature for a new model sports car running on the latest Nvidia chip, and the challenge of porting the code behind the feature to the company's older line of minivans. Code Metal's AI would automatically handle the translation.

Morales is positioning the company as distinct from so-called vibe-coding platforms like Cursor or Anthropic's Claude Code, which allow users to automate much of the process of writing software with text prompts.

"Vibe coding is all about explaining an initial idea in text, and generating code that will get you started developing your minimum viable product," Morales said. "This is not where most companies spend their time. Code Metal focuses on bringing code to production. That requires strong guarantees the code we're converting is accurate, compliant and working as expected."

Morales said large language models alone can't provide this level of certainty, so Code Metal employs what computer scientists call formal methods to check the code and make it's been translated correctly.

The company, based in Boston, says it's already struck contracts worth tens of millions of dollars with commercial and public sector clients, including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris and Raytheon as well as some automotive suppliers and consumer electronics brands.

Accel's Steve Loughlin, who led the deal, said Code Metal is the fastest growing company in his firm's portfolio of early-stage startups, and that demand for its technology is surging.

"The market opportunity is practically uncapped here," Loughlin said, "to help people develop on the edge much faster and modernize legacy code."

Code Metal's earlier backers J2 ventures and Shield Capital also participated in the round, along with Bosch ventures and Raytheon's RTX Ventures.

WisdomAI, an innovative startup founded by Soham Mazumdar, who previously co-founded Rubrik, has successfully raised $50 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Kleiner Perkins, alongside a new participant, NVentures, the venture capital arm of Nvidia.

This latest funding comes just six months after the startup completed a seed round, securing $23 million with support from Coatue.

Specializing in AI-driven analytics, WisdomAI enables users to pose business-related queries using natural language. This includes inquiries about data that may be structured, unstructured, or even "dirty"—data that contains errors or inconsistencies. For instance, a user might ask, “What is the total number of customers in my pipeline and what obstacles are preventing closures this quarter?”

A notable aspect of WisdomAI's approach is its ingenious handling of the well-known LLM (large language model) hallucination issue. Rather than relying on LLMs to generate responses directly, the startup uses them solely for crafting queries destined for data warehouses. This strategy means that if the LLM generates an inaccurate query, it won’t create misleading answers.

WisdomAI has developed what it refers to as the "enterprise context layer," which analyzes customer data to build a comprehensive understanding. The co-founders of WisdomAI bring valuable insights from their tenure at Rubrik, where they gained extensive experience in enterprise data storage solutions. Mazumdar departed from Rubrik in 2023 to focus on this new venture.

Since its official launch in late 2024, WisdomAI has expanded its clientele from two to approximately 40 enterprise customers, including notable firms like Descope, ConocoPhillips, Cisco, and Patreon. CEO Mazumdar notes a growing engagement from these enterprises, with some tripling their usage within a couple of months. In one case, a customer that initially began with 10 seats has now scaled up to accommodate 450 users, covering nearly the entire organization.

In recent developments, WisdomAI has also introduced an agentic feature designed to notify users of significant changes in the metrics they are tracking in real time. Mazumdar explains that he created this feature in just about five minutes. Instead of receiving routine updates every day or hour, this system sends alerts "when something interesting happens."

"This is where the true value of analytics lies. Traditionally, it has been about static reports, but we're transitioning to a more dynamic and proactive model," he stated.

This round comes roughly six months after the startup announced a seed round of $23 million led by Coatue.

WisdomAI offers AI-driven data analytics that can answer business questions from structured, unstructured, and even “dirty” data, meaning data that hasn’t been cleaned of typos or errors. A business user simply asks questions in natural language, such as, “How many customers do I have in my pipeline and what’s preventing them from closing this quarter?”

But the company is using a clever method to eliminate the LLM hallucination problem. WisdomAI is not using LLMs to write answers to questions. Instead, LLMs are only used to write the query — the part that will go out to a data warehouse to retrieve data. So if the LLM hallucinates, it will simply write an ineffective query rather than inventing false answers.

WisdomAI has written its own logic that it calls the “enterprise context layer,” which studies the customer data to understand it. All of the startup’s co-founders worked with Mazumdar at data security company Rubrik, giving them deep experience with enterprise storage warehouses. (Mazumdar left Rubrik in 2023.)

Since formally launching in late 2024, WisdomAI has grown from two enterprise customers to around 40 enterprise customers, CEO Mazumdar says. WisdomAI counts such companies like Descope, ConocoPhillips, Cisco, and Patreon as customers.

Mazumdar said the young company is also growing usage within its enterprise customers. Some customers have doubled usage within two months. Another customer started with 10 seats and expanded to 450, which is almost everyone in the company, he said.

In the last six months, WisdomAI has also added an agentic feature that will alert users in real time to important changes in situations they are monitoring.

“I have created an agent which is watching our product usage metrics, our ticket information,” Mazumdar says, adding that it took him about five minutes to create it. But rather than sending him a daily or, even, hourly report on usage and helpdesk tickets, it alerts him “when something interesting happens,” he describes.

“I think that’s the magic with analytics. It’s always been a static report, but we are making it dynamic. We are making it proactive,” he said.
